Remember when the David E. Davis, Jr. wrote ( and recorded audio! ) for Winding Road? Remember when it was really good and revolutionary for the time? How did they manage to screw it up so royally? It's a sad shell of what it once was...

At least they still make videos like these:

Sometimes, when I can’t sleep at night, I close my eyes and run movies of great cars on great roads on the insides of my eyelids. I can feel the lateral acceleration. I can sense the moment when they roll out of the brakes and re-establish their trajectory through the second half of the S-bend. I’d like to be as fast as my heroes, but I don’t mind the fact that I’m not. I’ll put my joy of driving up there against theirs any day. - David E. Davis, Jr.

Some experiences are hard to describe, but the experience of hurrying down a high-crowned country road—in some places little more than a country lane—driving just fast enough that you’re unwilling to look down at the speedometer; being able to see three distinct changes of direction coming up in the next half-mile; is sheer paradise.

David E. Davis, Jr. was a great automotive journalist, I loved his tone...he will be missed.

I remember meeting David E one day when my nephew and I poked our heads into Automobile Magazine's offices. He invited us into his office, chatted with us for a bit and gave us some great swag. He was a marvelous gentleman. To be honest, I never really got into Winding Road, in fact I didn't know he'd been affiliated with it.

His writing was always fantastic, but at some point WR added the aural treat of this gentleman reading his submission for the month. Truly fantastic stuff. I tried looking for the old articles/recordings, but it looks like it's no longer online.

Anyone know where these might be archived?

Nothing like some screaming engines and thundering exhausts to make your day better. Did you watch the one with David E. in the RS4 as well? Not to be missed.

Oh yea I just watched that. So friggin cool. I'm going to start calling myself Adam R.(middle initial) in place of Adam Zer0 or just Zer0 when I talk to people on the internet.

He put words together so eloquently I think my ears are pregnant.

If you're interested, search: Davis E Davis Jr American Driver , and you'll find at least a couple more (audio only).
